Occupational Health and Safety

Policy & Basic Approach

The Muratec Group considers protecting the safety and health of all employees and stakeholders involved in our operations to be the top priority of management. Furthermore, ensuring a safe and secure workplace is essential for each employee to find fulfillment in their work and maximize their abilities. Therefore, we established the following occupational safety and health principles and policies, aimed at bringing about a safe and comfortable workplace environment. Based on this philosophy, we have established an occupational safety and health system with the President & C.E.O. as the responsible officer. We implement safety and health activities through the Safety & Health Committees at each business site, while also working to promote and continuously improve safety and health activities across the entire Group.

Philosophy

We
place the safety and health of our employees as our top priority in the workplace.
Through continuous improvement of safety and health activities and their outcomes (performance),
we pursue the realization of a safe and comfortable workplace environment, the enhancement of employees’ mental and physical well-being,
and the happiness of each and every employee.

Policy

We will put our thoughts into action in accordance with this Occupational Safety & Health Philosophy. All individuals involved in our business activities and under our management (hereinafter referred to as “employees”) will work together to achieve a truly accident-free workplace where everyone can work in safety and good health.

  1. To eliminate workplace accidents and prevent employee injuries and illnesses, all employees shall undertake the following activities under the leadership of the Company-Wide Safety & Health Committee.
    • Identify workplace health and safety hazards, assess their risk levels, and reduce them
    • Strive to promote employee health and create a pleasant workplace environment
    • Have everyone pay attention to employees’ mental health
  2. Comply with all health and safety laws and regulations, as well as internal company rules and other requirements agreed upon by the company. (*Other requirements: Customer safety and health requirements, etc.)
  3. Conduct safety and health education and training to enhance each employee’s safety awareness and instill safe behavior as a habit.
  4. Measure the effectiveness of safety and health activities using metrics, while proactively and continuously improve activities based on trends in those effectiveness indicators.
  5. This Safety & Health Policy shall be reviewed periodically to verify its validity, communicated to all employees, and disclosed to society.

Implementation Framework

Under the direction and management of the Safety and Health Officer (Director of ESG Implementation), the Muratec Group has established an implementation framework comprised of the Safety & Health Committee, Safety & Health Coordinators, Statutory Managers, and Occupational Physicians at each business site. We hold monthly Workplace Safety & Health Committee meetings and quarterly Company-Wide Safety & Health Committee meetings to report on the implementation status of safety and health measures at each business site, thereby working to horizontally deploy improvement initiatives.

Implementation Framework

Occupational Safety & Health Management

The Inuyama Safety and Health Site*1, including the Inuyama Plant and its affiliated companies, has been certified to ISO 45001, the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems, since 2021. Through risk assessments, compliance evaluations, annual internal audits, and management reviews, we aim for continuous improvement of our activities and the elimination of workplace accidents.

Workplace Accident Prevention Efforts

The Muratec Group aims for zero workplace accidents. For the fiscal year ending March 2025, there were no fatal accidents involving either regular employees or contract employees. There were 5 accidents resulting in lost work time and 10 accidents not resulting in lost work time. We are analyzing and investigating the root causes of these accidents and implementing improvement initiatives. Following a workplace accident, an emergency Safety Committee meeting is convened immediately to identify the status of personnel, equipment, and management systems at the time of the accident, analyze the cause, and implement countermeasures. Subsequently, a report is made to the Safety & Health Committee and accident reports are distributed to each business site to implement measures to prevent similar accidents. We consolidate and manage records of all past workplace accidents and make them available for employees to view.
At the Inuyama Plant, in order to aim for zero workplace accidents on the premises and to further strengthen accident recurrence prevention, we engaged in horizontal deployment activities. This involves identifying the root causes of accidents through a special committee, verifying the potential for similar accidents to occur in other workplaces, and linking these findings to accident recurrence prevention across the entire plant. Furthermore, to thoroughly implement preventive measures, we will also prioritize reviewing and improving our risk assessment methodologies.

Initiatives

We strive to prevent workplace and traffic accidents by identifying and improving hazardous areas through risk assessments and near-miss reporting, and by enhancing safety awareness through education and awareness campaigns. We also set numerical targets based on the issues at each business site and manage actual results and achievement rates.

Risk Assessment

We implement risk assessment as well as legal compliance evaluation methodologies and formats in compliance with ISO 45001 across major business sites, enabling risk identification and mitigation while ensuring adherence to the most current regulations. In order to improve hazard identification methods and accuracy, we also conduct internal training on risk assessment.

Labor Management Safety Patrols

Every year, the President & C.E.O., Vice President, executives, and labor union conduct inspections of major business sites. We conduct inspections and identify areas for improvement from a management perspective distinct from the routine patrols carried out at each business site, aiming to enhance overall safety and health standards across the entire Group.

Modification of Door Handles Along Evacuation Routes

We are undertaking efforts to modify door knobs and handles along evacuation routes to panic handles (panic hardware) and lever handles, enabling employees to evacuate more safely and quickly in the event of an emergency.

Installation of the “Mother’s Room” Lactation Room

As part of our efforts to improve the workplace environment for our employees, we have newly installed a lactation room within the clinic at our Inuyama Plant as of June 2024. We will continue making efforts to improve the workplace environment so that employees can maintain their physical and mental health while working.

Education & Awareness

We conduct role-specific and hierarchical occupational safety and health training at each of our business sites. At the Inuyama Plant, we conduct regular skill improvement training for departmental safety managers and health managers, serving as refresher training even after they have obtained their qualifications. In May 2024, we held a ”Risk Assessment Workshop” with a safety consultant as the instructor to provide retraining on risk assessment implementation methods. A total of 97 participants attended, consisting primarily of departmental safety managers and members of the Safety & Health Office.

Safety Training Dojo & Hands-On Training

We have established “Safety Training Dojos” at each factory to provide education on the fundamentals of occupational safety. We also utilize various hazard simulation training devices that allow employees to experience potential dangers lurking on-site, which serves as safety education for our employees.

Traffic Safety Training

We conduct annual training sessions in which participants learn the importance of traffic safety through videos of actual accidents and near-miss incidents.
