Support from the Murata Overseas Scholarship Foundation

The Murata Overseas Scholarship Foundation, a public-interest incorporated foundation, was established in 1970 by the current chairman, Junichi Murata. It carries forward the will of the late Teisuke Murata, founder of Murata Machinery, who wished to “provide students seeking knowledge with broad opportunities to study overseas.”
Undergraduate and graduate students may study abroad for two years, while associate professors, lecturers, and assistant professors may study abroad for one year at overseas universities of their choice. Scholarship recipients are provided with all expenses required for studying abroad, including tuition, round-trip travel costs, and living expenses. This program offers exceptionally generous funding and, most notably, imposes no restrictions whatsoever on recipients’ career paths after returning home, which is a rare and highly advantageous system for international students. Since its inception, it has garnered high praise from prospective scholars, attracting over 3,650 outstanding applicants and supporting the studies of more than 120 scholarship recipients.
Graduates who have completed their studies abroad are now active as outstanding individuals represented in various fields across Japan and around the world, including universities and other educational institutions, as well as research institutes. Murata Machinery has consistently supported the activities of the Murata Overseas Scholarship Foundation, a public-interest incorporated foundation, since its establishment.

Supporting Hands-On Learning for Elementary School Students in Kyoto City

We have continuously supported the Kyoto Craftsmanship Hall of Fame, a program implemented by Kyoto City in which elementary and junior high school students learn and experience hands-on craftsmanship, since 2010. We develop “Workshop Learning” programs, dispatch employees, host corporate booth exhibitions, and produce supplementary textbooks such as “Kyoto Manufacturing Stories.” The Workshop Learning programs were renewed in 2022. We have designed and built new devices for experiencing how machines work, and are conducting lessons that convey the message to children that “automation through machinery leads to a more prosperous life.”

Supporting local high school and university students’ manufacturing training and career education

Our company holds training programs for local high school and university students at various locations including our Kyoto Head Office, Inuyama Plant, Ise Plant, and Kaga Factory. We support educational activities in collaboration with schools, including hands-on manufacturing training at factories, work experience programs, and career education lectures.

Empress’s Cup Annual Inter-Prefectural Women’s Ekiden

A splendid and energetic festival of women unfolding on the capital’s roads in the new year: the Empress’s Cup Annual Inter-Prefectural Women’s Ekiden (organized by Japan Association of Athletics Federations, co-organized by NHK and Kyoto Shimbun). This relay race is a major event in Japanese women’s track and field, where the nation’s top runners gather to compete for victory amid the hope and support of their hometown, and has nurtured numerous middle- and long-distance runners.
Murata Machinery has been the sole sponsor since the 7th tournament in 1989. Every year, countless dramas emerge and many new stars are born, and we cheer our hearts out during this competitive battle.
To those women, eyes burning with devotion, we will continue to cheer them on as they grace this greatest stage as they perspire with determination.

Ensemble Hall Murata (Kyoto Concert Hall Small Hall)

As part of our efforts to support a flourishing music culture, we provided funding for construction of the Small Hall (Ensemble Hall Murata) of the Kyoto Concert Hall, a “hallowed hall of classical music” built as part of the project to commemorate the 1,200th anniversary of the relocation of the capital of Japan to Heian-kyo. We also support various musical activities, including sponsoring concerts.

Ensemble Hall Murata hosts a variety of performances that take full advantage of the hall’s acoustic properties, which are ideal for the performance and appreciation of small-scale orchestras, instrumental music, and chamber music.
